Learning the Language of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As terminology continues to evolve across academic internal medicine, AAMC has updated its holistic review program, now called mission-aligned selection and retention. The new terminology reflects an emphasis on aligning recruitment, assessment, and learner support with each institution’s mission. While the name is shifting, the core principles and tools behind holistic admissions and retention remain the same.

Alliance Advocacy Efforts

The Alliance collaborates with other major medical societies and organizations to advance organizational priorities and advocate for issues important to members. Recent coordinated efforts include opposing the Executive Order imposing a $100,000 fee on H-1B visas and opposing the more than $1.77 billion cut to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention proposed in the House FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) appropriations bill. Keep updated on the latest Alliance successes and take action on key policy issues affecting academic internal medicine.
