Global Health Ethics Curriculum

SPACER
06-05-2020 02:12 PM

The goal of this curriculum is to prepare trainees engaging in global health experiences to ethically and effectively address real-life scenarios frequently confronted during fieldwork, ranging from medical voyeurism to delivering medical within one’s scope of practice.

This will be accomplished through a case-based curriculum in which scenarios will be presented, followed by a series of questions that guide the reader to contemplate action-based responses. Each scenario will also have a video link to responses by global health experts who discuss the nuances of important, but less considered, consequences of trainees field experiences. Videos allow for greater flexibility in addressing each ethical case, highlighting pitfalls as well as providing direct solutions, all from experts in global health. Finally, each case will have a link to on-line training modules presented by other organizations (Unite for Sight, Consortium of Universities for Global Health, etc) for more in-depth reading.

Participating Institution: Tulane School of Medicine

Submitting Author: Anjali Niyogi, MD

Outcomes: We have completed 7 case scenarios. We have completed videotaping and editing 6 of 7 videos and are in the process of uploading them to on-line canvas format. We will be completing a pre-departure and post-departure survey regarding impact of the video curriculum.
