AAIM Celebrates African American History Month 2021
Established by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History in 1926, African American History Month recognizes the valuable contributions African Americans have made historically and continue to make toward the success and advancement of the United States.
This February—and every month—the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine celebrates and supports the important work of African American faculty, administrators, and learners, and the positive impact they have on their institutions and the patients they serve.
The Alliance is committed to elevating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through initiatives outlined in the organization’s strategic plan, providing resources to members, ensuring practical professional development opportunities, and dedicating staff to execute this work. AAIM also strives to address DEI issues in medicine and in our society more broadly. As an example of its ongoing commitment, this year AAIM became a key supporter and co-sponsor of a collaborative effort with ABIM, the ABIM Foundation, ACP, and the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation to administer a new innovations grant program that will award small and large project grants focused on creating a more equitable health system by incorporating DEI into the fabric of internal medicine education and training.
AAIM encourages you to share feedback and ideas on how the organization can support the African American community and further its work to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism. We invite you to connect with your colleagues through the AAIM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion online discussion forum and the other member association forums at www.im.org.
The Alliance is Even Better Together.
