AAIM Research Pathways Initiative

Research pathways are training programs for physicians interested in becoming academic physician scientists. These programs combine internal medicine training with hands-on, mentored research, which take place during residency, fellowship, or both.

The AAIM Research Pathways Initiative supports physician scientists at the divisional, departmental, and institutional levels. The initiative strengthens the overall training pathway, highlighting the importance of biomedical research to the public and policymakers, and sustaining research funding. It also promotes strong advising and helps trainees build resilience as they develop their careers.

The initiative is led by the AAIM Research Committee, representing educators in physician-scientist training programs across residency and fellowship and research-in-residency programs.
