How long have you been a member of AAIM?

I became a member six years ago when I joined Washington University School of Medicine.

Describe your typical day.

Oh my…I come in and plow through email, putting out which ever fire needs to be put out. The main part of my job is to assure that we meet all accreditation programs. Scheduling, accreditation and clinical competency all fall under me.

What is your favorite part of the job?

I like being able to innovate and tweak systems that we have in place to make things easier for all of us involved. If there is a way to make things more streamlined, I prefer to use that method.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?

I wasn’t aware that GME was even a career—the Alliance has been a lynchpin for me to see that this is a career. The more information I received from the conferences and organization the clearer picture I got of how all bodies come together to make graduate medical education happen.

I’m going to the AIMW18 in March. I enjoy talking with people who experience the same thing and having the ability to pick up new ideas and practices that benefit my department and make my job easier. I’m all for not reinventing the wheel.

What's your favorite moment of your career so far?

I felt very satisfied on the day we completed a pilot study site visit from ACGME. It was a successful endeavor and I was proud of myself.

What was your childhood dream job?

I wanted to be a doctor. I was a biology and science major and before we could take the MCAT at my university we had to do an internship and spend six weeks in general practice and surgery settings. It finally hit me that when you cut people they actually bleed. That experience changed my career trajectory.

How do you spend your free time?

Playing Paw Patrol with my three year old and planning my next vacation.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I lived in Munich, Germany for nine years after I graduated from college. I have been to more European countries than I have states in America!
