April 2022—Now in its fifth year, the AAIM Guidelines for Fellowship Applicant Letter of Recommendations have improved the educational handover from residency to fellowship. When compared to letters that did not adhere to guidelines, fellowship program directors found conforming letters to be more helpful in many areas. Programs are encouraged to fully adopt the guidelines for 2022 internal medicine subspecialty fellowship applicants.
