Learning the Language of DEI

Social determinants of health: According to the CDC, social determinants of health are conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. The five key areas of social determinants of health are healthcare access and quality, education access and quality, social and community context, economic stability, and neighborhood and built environment.

Implicit bias:
Also known as unconscious bias, implicit bias is a belief, stereotype, attitude, or feeling that is present but not consciously held or recognized and often activated without intent or control.

The AAIM Health Disparities Collaborative developed teaching materials to support member efforts to teach about SDOH and implicit bias.
