Addressing Health Equity Curricular Gaps through Community Partnerships: A How-To Guide

When:  Feb 5, 2026 from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM (ET)

Addressing and teaching about health care inequities is paramount to residency training. However, many programs struggle to create meaningful curricula when creating health equity, social determinants of health (SDOH), and DEI programming, leading to rote didactics and modules that are unlikely to change behavior or improve patient care. A crucial component to teaching and ultimately addressing health equity that is often missing is involving members of vulnerable and minoritized communities as partners in the process.

Program leaders and residents must be empowered to engage with community partners and sites that are already working to address SDOH and health inequities to learn from each other and improve care for the most vulnerable populations.  Examples of two programs in different stages of establishing and growing these partnerships will provide varied and rich reflections on challenges, lessons learned, and best practices.
