Many medical educators struggle to get learners to be active, engaged participants in learning. Lecturing, without substantial interactive components, does not take advantage of how we learn best. Over the last ten years, K-12 educators have applied the neurobiology of learning to promote student knowledge and skill acquisition. In this session, presenters will adapt techniques developed by Teach Like a Champion to adult medical learners. First, the webinar will cover “ratio” (the proportion of time individual students spend engaged with a subject) and how to analyze ratio in teaching sessions. Then, presenters will focus on two specific strategies that that get all learners involved: wait time and cold calling. Presenters will also discuss the application of these teaching techniques in didactic content (formerly lecture style format).
