How long have you been a member of AAIM?

Four years.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Working with learners of all levels and helping individuals and programs develop trajectories for success, as well as advocating for the Med-Peds specialty on a local, regional, and national level.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?

It has been integral to understanding commonalities and variations in the way that programs do things, for example through AAIM's online communities. AAIM serves as a source for continued faculty development and mentorship/networking.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career as a physician?

I was pretty much convinced after I shadowed my Pediatrician for 8th grade career day and enjoyed the prospect of seeing patients of all ages, backgrounds, and acuities.

What or who inspires you and why?

My mentors in Med-Peds and colleagues at my institution, as well as Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona soccer player.  Also my two sons, who push me daily to be the best role model I can be.

What advice would you give to those who wish to pursue a career in academic medicine?

While it may be a challenging road you decide to traverse, it is undoubtedly the most fulfilling. The health care needs of the country continue to evolve, and to be part of this large movement, by making your own path and taking strides in aspects such as medical education, population health, quality and safety, advocacy, or research enable you to greatly impact patients daily, both directly with regards to their clinical care, as well as impacting the health care of populations!

What is your favorite book or movie?

Book: The Catcher in the Rye, Lean In, Educated
