Community Rallies around Hahnemann University Hospital Trainees and Faculty

  

On June 26, the owners of Hahnemann University Hospital, the primary teaching hospital for Drexel University School of Medicine, announced the 161-year old institution will close due to bankruptcy. Subsequently, the internal medicine and academic medicine communities in Philadelphia and across the nation have rallied to support the residents, fellows, faculty, and administrators of the institution, who will be displaced by September. Announcements from AAMC, ACGME, ACP, and ECFMG have shown stakeholder committment to ensuring as little disruption as possible to the residents who are now seeking new programs, while programs from across the country have taken to the APDIM Discussion Forum to volunteer open residency spots for these learners in internal medicine.

 

The Alliance appreciates the rapid response and support for our colleagues at Hahemann demonstrated by AAIM member institutions and key stakeholders.
