How long have you been a member of AAIM?

I have been a member for about five years.

Describe your typical day.

I don’t think there is a typical day. We do not do the same thing every day but rather the same thing once a year! But I think it is a good thing that we don’t have a typical day because there is never a dull moment. You never know what is going to happen!

What is your favorite part of the job?

I think it’s the residents. I feel blessed to work in a small program where I get to know them all and try to help them get where they want to be.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?

There are two things that are of value to me: the discussion forums and the conferences. I learn a lot from contacting other professionals within the society. And I attend the conference to network and meet other administrators as well as take the workshops to learn more and solve issues that arise.

What’s your favorite moment of your career so far?

That is a tough one. I did have a moment that I have been very proud of because I was able to help one of our residents. The resident was very sick and had to take a leave of absence. Since that usually interferes with the slated timing of residency and we were not sure when or if he’d be able to return we knew that he may lose his spot. I also knew that if we were not able to keep his spot, it would affect morale in a very negative manner. After consulting with our GME office we took it to the Hospital C-Suite and I was successful in fighting to keep the position open so it was available when he returned.

I also love that the residents keep me in their lives. I get invited to weddings and receive baby announcements and continue to be a part of many of their lives after residency.

What was your childhood dream job?

At first I wanted to be teacher but went to college for graphic arts.

How do you spend your free time?

I mostly hang out with my family and husband. I like to ride my bike. And I also enjoy crafting - knitting, paper arts, scrapbooking, jewelry making, and whatever else that looks cool.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I love rock music and would love to have an art studio.
