 February 2026

Welcome to Diversity Now, AAIM’s quarterly newsletter dedicated to sharing the latest diversity, equity, and inclusion resources in academic internal medicine and beyond.

February Is Black History Month

Founded by Carter G. Woodson, PhD, and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Black History Month recognizes and celebrates African American life, history, and culture. As the nation marks the centennial of these commemorations, we are reminded of the enduring impact of this work and invited to reflect on the next century of learning, acknowledgment, and collective growth.

A Shared Commitment to Fair Pay

AAMC has published a new report, A Shared Commitment to Fair Pay: Recommendations for Creating and Sustaining Compensation Equity in Academic Medicine, which offers practical strategies to advance compensation equity in academic medicine. Developed from insights shared by leaders from more than 70 institutions as well as experts in pay equity, the report presents three key recommendation areas with actionable strategies any institution can use to start or enhance their compensation equity efforts. AAMC will kick off a free three-part webinar series on February 26 to discuss the details of the recommendations outlined in the report.

The Hub reflects the varied terminology preferences for individuals with disabilities by employing both person-first and identity-first language. In addition to promoting respectful communication, it offers a range of tools to support learners with disabilities during the transition from medical school into residency and fellowship.
