4 years.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Learning new things, helping others and being a part of the GME Team.
How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?
AAIM membership has been of value to me and my career with networking, meeting new people and sharing ideas.
When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in the medical field?
I knew in the mid-1990s when I was in the business field that I could make an even stronger difference in the medical field. The medical field would challenge me to do better and to help a wider range of people (i.e., medical students, residents, program director and program coordinators). I strive to empower others to be the best they can be.
What or who inspires you and why?
There are a lot of people who inspire me, from my previous clerkship directors (IM/Neuro) to my mentor - a former colleague that served on the CDIM CA Advisory Council, my Administrative Director, my Designated Institutional Official, Director of Patient Safety Quality Improvement, as well as my former Director of Medical Education who is now the President & CEO of a large organization. All these people inspire and encourage me to be the best person I can be both personally and professionally.
What advice would you give to those who wish to pursue a career in this industry?
The advice I would give is to always be open to change. The medical field is ever changing. Continue to learn your area of expertise in the medical field to be an asset and to help others in your organization as well as professional organizations. Get involved with AAIM to network and grow professionally.
What is your favorite book or movie?
Any movie that has challenges but, in the end, it all works out.
