AAIM Celebrates Women in Medicine Month
September marks Women in Medicine Month (#WIMmonth), created by the American Medical Association (AMA) to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of women in medicine, advocate for women in medicine, and to bring awareness to health issues effecting female patients. According to this 2024 Association of American Medical College (AAMC) report, women are the majority of applicants and graduates at US medical schools, yet research shows that barriers remain. A recent JAMA Network Open review highlights ongoing gender inequities in leadership at US academic medical centers, underscoring the need for continued efforts. The Alliance Women Leadership Empowerment Advancement and Development (L.E.A.D.) is an Alliance member community open to all members. It offers access to resources, education, and connections that foster the professional growth and career advancement of women in academic internal medicine.

These updates promote bias-free, respectful communication in medical education and research.

The Alliance Introduces ERAS Resources on IM.org
In an effort to address the complexities of the UME–GME transition, the Alliance has collaborated extensively with AAMC to examine and improve aspects of the process, from initiating program signals to address application inflation and interview disparities to enhancing the Residency Explorer platform to provide greater transparency and utility for internal medicine applicants. The Alliance collated AAMC resources to help the internal medicine community make informed decisions and plan for the upcoming recruitment season.
