The Alliance Announces Changes to Board Governance for July 1

Thank you for your support of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM).

In FY 2025, the Alliance undertook an effort to examine the governance structure to ensure our ongoing success. With significant efforts from the AAIM Governance Committee, and the support of AMC Consulting Services, the AAIM Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the first phase of the governance change is approved and will begin July 1, 2025.

In summary, to continue the evolution of the Alliance, the AAIM Board of Directors will move from an appointment-based entity to become a competency-based, expertise-driven entity. The Alliance will create a new AAIM Nominating Committee to develop competencies and rubrics to facilitate vetting and selection for AAIM Board At-Large Members and Officers.

For a fuller explanation of and background for the changes, please watch the recording of a recent town hall to present the changes to the council members.

For FY 2026, which begins July 1, 2025, the AAIM Board Officers will be:

  • President:  Polly E. Parsons, MD
  • Past President:  Shobhina G. Chheda
  • President-Elect:  To be selected by spring 2026
  • Treasurer:  Jeff Becker, MBA

Please note that no changes are anticipated for the function or structure of the individual councils. Moreover, council interaction with and input to the AAIM Board of Directors will be formalized through a new future “council advisory group.”

Again, thank you for your support.  If you have questions about this email, board governance, or the Alliance, please contact governance@im.org at your convenience.
