Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), thank you for your support. In these times of unprecedented uncertainty and change, we write to remind you that the Alliance remains fully committed to its mission and vision; namely, that as the home of medical education and research, AAIM promotes the advancement and professional development of its members.
The Alliance is committed to working with our collaborative partners, including but not limited to AAMC, ABIM, ACP, ACGME, Intealth, Research!America, and the subspecialty societies, to help faculty and staff at member institutions negotiate the perpetually changing landscape and continue to provide the world-class education, research, and clinical care which is the hallmark of US academic internal medicine.
AAIM leadership and staff are monitoring the environment closely and watching for opportunities to collaborate with partners to support our members through these uncertain times.
Again, we appreciate your support of the Alliance and the community we have all built. We remain Even Better Together.
Sincerely, Polly and Shobhi
Polly E. Parsons, MD, MACP, FCCP, ATSF AAIM President and CEO

New Data on Medical School Applicants and Enrollment in 2024
According to an AAMC report for the 2024-2025 academic year, there were gains in applicants among two groups historically underrepresented in medicine: Black or African American (up 2.8%), and Hispanic, Latino, or of Spanish origin (up 2.2%). Moreover, for the sixth year in a row, women made up the majority of applicants, matriculants, and total enrollment. However, matriculants from all groups that are historically underrepresented in medicine declined compared to 2023 data.
