November Is American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Heritage Month
According to 2022–2023 data from AAMC, only 1% of total enrolled medical students self-identified as AI/AN, compared to 2.9% of the 2021 US population. In this 2023 Lancet Regional Health – Americas article, the authors propose systemic policy solutions to close the gap.
AAMC is spotlighting summer programs designed to support AI/AN premed students and those serving AI/AN communities. These programs offer diverse opportunities, varying in length, location, and application requirements.
