Welcome to Diversity Now, AAIM’s quarterly newsletter dedicated to sharing the latest diversity, equity, and inclusion resources in academic internal medicine and beyond.

February is Black History Month
Founded by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Black History Month started in February 1926 as Negro History Week and grew into Black History Month by 1976.

According to a 2022 AAMC report, 6.7% of active internal medicine physicians identified as Black or African American; of AAIM members who have shared their race or ethnicity, 5.9% indicated that they are Black or African American.

In celebration of Black History Month, learn more about eight Black physician leaders and their impact on medicine from this AAMC article
