How long have you been a member of AAIM?
I became a member of AAIM in 2014 when I started my role with the IM Clerkship.

What is your favorite part of your job?
It is the gratification of caring for patients with my team of dedicated learners while inspiring them to become excellent future physicians. The intellectually stimulating environment of working with medical students and residents ensures that every workday is infused with excitement. The opportunity to bring smiles to my patients’ faces serves as a perpetual inspiration. Moreover, witnessing my student or resident achieve this adds to a different dimension of fulfillment.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?
The membership has provided me a professional home and a great platform for collaborating with other educators across the U.S. It has provided an avenue for exchanging innovative curriculum enhancement ideas and engagement in professional development opportunities. The annual AIM Week is an excellent meeting where I have been able to immerse myself in the forefront of academic medicine advancements. The insightful educational sessions and effective networking has undeniably contributed to my career progression.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in the medical field?
Towards the end of 10th grade, I started to have a strong inclination towards a career in medicine. My sister had just started her medical school, and she was a key source of inspiration. Studying biology for the next few years consolidated my choice.

What or who inspires you and why?
My mom has been a great source of inspiration. She continues to foster a life full of undeterred dedication to hard work, humility, duty, and personal resilience. She has taught me how to create a nurturing environment around me by focusing on kindness, empathy, and a growth mindset.

What advice would you give to those who wish to pursue a career in this industry?
For those considering a career in the medical profession, my advice would be to embrace a commitment towards lifelong learning, as the field of medicine is ever-evolving. Cultivate empathy and communication skills, for they are as crucial as medical knowledge in delivering comprehensive patient care. Invest in personal resilience, as the path to becoming a physician is demanding but ultimately rewarding.

What is your favorite book or movie?
My favorite book is “Ghost Boy” the autobiography of Martin Pistorius, a boy trapped in his own body due to a misdiagnosis. The book changes your perspective of interacting with people with disabilities. It highlights the power of hope and value of exceptional care in the most hopeless.
