January 2022—Because travel and in-person visits heighten risks to communities and individuals, including the same faculty, residents, and staff who are vital to keeping our health care and educational systems functional, AAIM announced January 10 that the original guidance for the residency interview season (issued in July 2021) have been amended to recommend that programs not offer or conduct in-person or second look visits to any applicants for the remainder of the 2021-2022 recruitment cycle. Preserving public health and safety remains paramount; it is imperative that the interview process avoid placing any population at increased risk.
