December 2021—The Alliance is one of 42 organizations that has joined ACGME, the Organization of Program Directors Associations, and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies in Equity Matters, a comprehensive strategic initiative focused on diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and anti-racism. This new initiative introduces a framework for continuous learning and process improvement and will drive change within GME by increasing physician workforce diversity and building safe and inclusive learning environments, while promoting health equity by addressing racial disparities in health care and overall population health.
The first phase of the initiative launched in July 2021 with the convening of four learning community cohorts that have embarked on an 18-month engagement cycle. Core teams from participating societies will include volunteer leaders and executive staff to implement the policy and practice changes. The program will offer a phased curriculum, tools, and skills training which will provide lessons to help drive implementation of innovative interventions, practices, policies, and data strategies that support DEI and anti-racism.
