AAIM President to Step Down in June 2022

Brater.pngApril 2021—On behalf of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), thank you for your support.

I write to let you know that I have asked the AAIM Board of Directors to commence a search for my successor when my current contract ends in June 2022. When I step down, I will have been in this role for 15 years; it is time for a new set of eyes and ears.

One of the many great aspects of being part of AAIM has been the opportunity to work with extraordinary colleagues like you. Together, we have collaborated to contribute to the advancement of internal medicine and medicine more broadly. I thank you for the chance to get to know so many of you and build trusting relationships that go beyond our daily work.

I hope to continue to serve our discipline but at a different pace and in different ways. In the meantime, AAIM has contracted with Witt Kieffer to begin a search in fall 2021. This timing will allow for not only the identification of my successor but also for enough overlap to assure a smooth onboarding process. You will hear more about the search as it progresses.

It has been my privilege to be the first President and CEO of the Alliance.

Thanks for your support,

D. Craig Brater, MD
AAIM President and CEO
