Program Coordinator
Capital Health Regional Medical Center

How long have you been a member of AAIM?
Going on six years in July 2020, when I first joined Capital Health.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing residents grow throughout their three years of training. Working with my amazing faculty and program for the last six years has been an unexpected joy of my life. I am so incredibly lucky to have the faculty that I work with. There always seems to be something new to figure out—this job definitely keeps my brain occupied!

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?
Providing me with resources, especially  connecting me with people in the IM community. I have received a lot of help and encouragement from AAIM members whenever needed, which has been and will continue to be a huge help. Though I haven’t been to an in-person meeting, my faculty always comes back with new and innovative ideas to implement and discuss. I’m definitely looking forward to attending meetings in the future and continuing to use AAIM as a major resource in my career.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career as a physician?
I am a program coordinator but work very closely with physicians—funny enough I originally got this job by being part of a temp agency! It was a case of “right place, right time” and I couldn’t be more thankful that my path has led me to here. Starting from not even knowing what a residency coordinator was to now has been quite a ride! I really love my job and consider myself extremely lucky to have found it.

What or who inspires you and why?
This one’s easy – my Program Director, Dr. Saba Hasan. We work very closely together and she inspires me to work hard and never give up on my goals and aspirations. She’s just as proud if not PROUDER of me and my accomplishments and always pushes me to be the best I can be. She has been my rock since I started and I couldn’t be any more grateful to have her as part of not only my professional but personal life. We’re just about the best team I can imagine and I don’t know what I would do without her!

What advice would you give to those who wish to pursue a career in this industry?
Be ready to work very hard, listen and learn from people around you, and push yourself to become the best you can! The job can be very frustrating and overwhelming sometimes, but seeing residents grow and learn over their residency is the most rewarding. Cultivate an environment of trust and hard work with your faculty and you will go far!

Also—stay organized! Make ALL the lists!!!

What is your favorite book or movie?
My favorite book is The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, and my favorite movie is Hook – early 90s with Robin Williams…bangarang.
