How long have you been a member of AAIM?

Since 2005

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love teaching enthusiastic students and residents and being part of a team that helps patients.

How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?

I have been able to meet many friends at AAIM over the years. I was able grow in my career thanks to initiatives at AAIM such as virtual patient case writing and collaborating on workshops with colleagues from around the country. AAIM Workshops and the Annual Meeting have helped me improve my teaching and assessment of students and encouraged me in my career as an academic internist.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career as a physician?

I wondered about it as a high schooler and then solidified my desire during undergraduate.

What or who inspires you and why?

My late father was a community college biology professor and had a passion for teaching.  His enthusiasm for life and teaching continues to inspire me.

What advice would you give to those who wish to pursue a career in academic medicine?

There are so many opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others in the field of medicine and in academic medicine. I always tell people that it is hard, but it is fun and absolutely worth it!

What is your favorite book or movie?
Favorite book:  To Kill A Mockingbird
