Leading through Disruption: Rebuilding Trust and Engagement

Registration will open May 14, 2027.

In the face of significant organizational change, residency program leadership must quickly adapt to preserve educational quality and maintain a healthy learning environment. Two years ago, the presenters’ residency program encountered multiple challenges that demanded urgent and sustained attention. For the first time,  ACGME Resident Survey results began to decline; to compound the problem, the institution underwent an acquisition that brought in a 30-resident internal medicine program midway through the academic year. This change expanded the total resident complement from 60 to 90, creating both logistical and cultural shifts.

As expected, the subsequent ACGME Resident and Faculty Survey scores continued on a downward trend. Program leadership struggled not only to grasp the depth and complexity of faculty and resident concerns, but also to reconcile the differing priorities and perceptions between these groups. This interactive webinar will walk participants through our experience, and the multipronged strategies implemented. Emphasis will be placed on stakeholder engagement, fostering open dialogue, and developing collaborative action plans to identify and address evolving program needs. Participants will engage in case-based discussion and leave with practical tools to navigate periods of organizational disruption while rebuilding trust and shared vision within their programs.
