Chalk It Up: Turning a Blank Board into a Brilliant Teaching Moment

March 17, 2027, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM | Webinar

Registration will open Feb. 26, 2027.

Chalk talks remain one of the most effective—and underutilized—teaching strategies in medical education. Whether at the bedside, in clinic, or during conference, a well-designed chalk talk can transform a few minutes into a memorable learning experience. Yet few clinician educators receive formal training on how to plan and deliver them effectively.

This webinar provides a practical, step-by-step approach to designing engaging, learner-centered chalk talks that can be adapted to a variety of clinical teaching environments. Participants will learn how to identify learner needs, write focused learning objectives, organize a board for clarity and retention, and use simple techniques to capture attention, promote active learning, and reinforce key teaching points. Throughout the session, attendees will see examples of effective chalk talks, common pitfalls to avoid, and practical strategies they can immediately incorporate into their own teaching.

Participants will leave with a structured approach to planning chalk talks, adaptable design templates, and evidence-informed teaching strategies that can be applied in bedside teaching, conferences, and other clinical learning environments.
