September is Women in Medicine Month

Created by the American Medical Association, Women in Medicine month (#WIMmonth) acknowledges and celebrates the accomplishments of women in medicine, advocate for women in medicine, and to bring awareness to health issues affecting female patients.

A new AAMC analysis offers a closer look at gender differences in clinical effort, productivity, and compensation among assistant professors. The findings highlight the importance of evaluating compensation at hiring and throughout early career stages to prevent disparities from widening over time. Institutional leaders can leverage clinical full-time equipment, work relative value units, and demographic data to inform compensation equity reviews and support more equitable pay practices. Supporting IMG Learners

Intealth is offering funding of up to $5,000 for innovative projects that support the well-being of IMG residents and fellows. The grant program aims to foster wellness, professional growth, and successful integration into US training environments. The application deadline is September 7, 2026.

Learning the Language of Inclusion

For health care professionals, health equity is a familiar term, but how it is understood outside of health care may be less clear. An AAMC Center for Health Justice poll found broad public support for the underlying principle that everyone should have a fair and just opportunity to achieve their highest level of health. The findings highlight the importance of communicating these concepts in clear, accessible ways that resonate across communities.

JAMA Internal Medicine Call for Papers on Health Equity

JAMA Internal Medicine invites researchers to submit studies that advance understanding of the mechanisms driving health inequities and evaluate evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes. The editors are particularly interested in solutions-focused research on mechanism-based interventions, the intersection of health equity and artificial intelligence, and patient-centered outcomes that reflect lived experiences.

Exploring Opportunities to Improve Patient Access to Care Through Strategic Changes to GME Policy

Many communities, especially in rural and underserved areas, continue to face barriers to accessing care. To explore how GME policy and financing can better address workforce and patient needs, the National Academies convened a workshop, supported by the ABIM Foundation, Arnold Ventures, California Health Care Foundation, and the Commonwealth Fund.
