Precourse on Designing a High Quality Ambulatory Educational Program: From Burning Platforms to Innovations

Sunday, March 18, 2018

Developed by APDIM

Most residency and medical schools have an ambulatory medicine educational program in place. However, academic institutions often struggle with certain challenges in ambulatory education including maintaining continuity with primary care patients, innovative ways of communicating with patients, and panel management. This course will highlight effective strategies developed to manage these challenges. In addition, this precourse will showcase certain innovative educational approaches to ambulatory medicine including telemedicine and resident-led specialty clinics. Participants will participate in several deliverables that can be implemented in their own home programs immediately upon completion of this course

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this precourse, participants will be able to:

  • Develop strategies for residents to manage their primary care panel and enhance continuity with their patients
  • Learn innovative approaches to ambulatory education and apply them to their institutions
  • Create unique schedules or special clinics that would enhance the educational experiences of learners

Target Audience

This precourse is designed for medical educators interested in learning how to design (or redesign) and implement a high-quality ambulatory educational program at their home institutions.
