About AAIM

The Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM)— the nation’s largest academically focused specialty organization—consists of the Association of Professors of Medicine (APM), the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM), the Association of Specialty Professors (ASP), the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM), and the Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM). Representing departments of internal medicine at the 126 US medical schools and 390 teaching hospitals, AAIM includes department chairs; division chiefs; residency, fellowship, and clerkship directors; as well as departmental faculty and executive and administrative staff.

Accounting for approximately 200,000 of the nation’s 700,000 physicians, internal medicine is the largest, most diverse specialty in the United States. Internal medicine includes the following subspecialties: allergy & immunology, cardiology, critical care medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology and hepatology, general internal medicine, geriatric medicine, hematology, infectious diseases, nephrology, oncology, pulmonary medicine, and rheumatology.
