Each fall, the Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM) and Association of Professors of Medicine (APM) jointly conduct a survey of medical school based departments of internal medicine. Annually, the survey asks about the size and funding of departments as well as standards for financial performance on clinical operations. Biennially, the survey asks questions about the adminstrative structure of the department and collects data on the salaries of key administrative personnel. In 2008, for the first time, the survey also collected salary data for department chairs and other key leaders.
