D. Craig Brater, MD
Dr. Brater has served as president of the alliance as a part time effort since 2007. He currently is Dean and Walter J. Daly Professor at Indiana University School of Medicine. Prior to these positions, Dr. Brater served as Chair of the Department of Medicine at the same institution. He earned his undergraduate degree and MD from Duke University. Dr. Brater completed his residency training as well as fellowship training in clinical pharmacology at University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. Dr. Brater is a former APM President.
Bergitta E. Smith
Executive Vice President
Bergitta has overall responsibility for alliance operations and service lines that support its member associations. Prior to joining the staff in June 2008, she served as chief operating officer at the National Patient Safety Foundation. Bergitta has a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also a fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives.
Talia D. Austin
Member Services Coordinator
Talia supports the team responsible for member services, governance, and information technology. She focuses her efforts on membership recruitment and retention, member services committees, and the development of new member benefits. Before joining the staff in June 2009, she worked for YMCA Triangle Area in Raleigh, NC. Talia has a bachelor's degree in economics from University of Pittsburgh.
Member Services Assistant
Rebekkah serves on the team responsible for member services. Her work focuses on membership management and administrative support for the team. Prior to joining the staff in May 2011, she worked for American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Rebekkah has a bachelor's degree in music and religious studies from University of South Carolina.
Derrick D. Brandon
Member Services Associate
Derrick serves on the team responsible for member services and governance. His efforts are currently focused on membership management and administrative support for the team. Prior to joining the staff in July 2010, he worked for The Heart Rhythm Society. Derrick has a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Margaret A. Breida
Director of Academic Affairs
Margie leads the team responsible for managing advocacy, academic affairs—which includes accreditation, workforce, certification, match, and other education issues—and data research efforts. Before she joined the staff in June 2011, she worked for AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs. Margie has a master’s degree in health physics from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in geography from University of Maryland.
Sheila T. Costa
Director of Strategic Planning and Development
Sheila manages communication/publication products for the associations and supports the overall operations of the alliance. Before joining the staff in June 1997, she worked for PortFolio Magazine and Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. Sheila has a master’s degree in English from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in English from The College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Samantha E. Engler
Samantha supports the association's national conferences on the meetings team by managing registration, working with speakers, developing evaluations systems, and providing administrative support. Before joining the staff in April 2008, she worked for ARAMARK. Samantha has a bachelor’s degree in international business and French from James Madison University.
As part of the Operations Team, Audrey manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, and provides additional support to the chief financial officer and controller. Before joining the staff in April 2012, she worked for the Council for Opportunity in Education. Audrey has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Strayer University.
Kyle J. Hayden
Assistant Director of Meetings
Kyle manages the team responsible for meetings. She executes the associations' national conferences, focusing on preparing meeting logistics, working with hotels, and managing program planning and agenda development efforts. Before joining the staff in November 2003, she worked for Alumni Association at University of Virginia. Kyle has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from University of Virginia.
Steven M. Humphrey
Assistant Director of Member Services
Steve helps the Member Services Team meet its responsibilities in governance and information technology. Before joining the staff in October 2002, he worked for Washington Lists and Lands’ End Inlet. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from State University of New York College at Brockport, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Regina M. Laurienzo
Regina supports the team responsible for managing association meetings. Her efforts focus on executing meeting logistics for medium and large meetings and managing planning committee efforts. Before joining the staff in November 2011, she worked for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Regina has a bachelor’s degree in communication from University of Maryland.
Michael D. Meirovitz
Academic Affairs Associate
Mike serves on the academic affairs team; his work focuses on monitoring “hot topics” in legislative and regulatory arenas, supporting committee efforts, and providing administrative assistance. Prior to joining the staff in October 2011, he was an intern for the Senate Health Education Labor Pensions Committee. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University and is a master’s candidate in government at Johns Hopkins University.
Kelly supports the ASP T. Franklin Williams Scholars Program and the Integrating Geriatrics program, which are funded by Atlantic Philanthropies and the John A. Hartford Foundation. Before joining the staff in April 2012, she worked for the Council for Opportunity in Education. Kelly has a bachelor’s degree in communications from DePauw University.
Academic Affairs Coordinator
Consuelo supports the team responsible for academic affairs and advocacy. She focuses her efforts on survey management, committee management, and supporting education redesign. Before joining the staff in May 2013, she worked for the Institute on Disability and Public Policy. Consuelo has a bachelor’s degree in politics and English from Mount Holyoke College.
Director of Member Services
Janet supervises activities in the member services arena, which includes information technology, governance, and membership. Before joining the staff in July 2000, she worked for the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research. Janet has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Miami University of Ohio.
As part of the Educational Programs Team, Kirsten manages the online registration system, meeting websites, and speaker communications as well as provides administrative support for program planning and other meeting-related efforts. Before joining the staff in May 2012, she worked for NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Kirsten has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Creighton University.
