D. Craig Brater, MD
Dr. Brater has served as president of the alliance as a part time effort since 2007. Dr. Brater is past Dean and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree and MD from Duke University. Dr. Brater completed his residency training as well as fellowship training in clinical pharmacology at University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. Dr. Brater is a former APM President.
Bergitta E. Smith
Executive Vice President
Bergitta has overall responsibility for alliance operations and service lines that support its member associations. Prior to joining the staff in June 2008, she served as chief operating officer at the National Patient Safety Foundation. Bergitta has a bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is also a fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives.
Talia D. Austin
Member Services Manager
Talia manages the team responsible for member services, governance, and information technology. She focuses her efforts on membership recruitment and retention, member services committees, and the development of new member benefits. Before joining the staff in June 2009, she worked for YMCA Triangle Area in Raleigh, NC. Talia has a bachelor's degree in economics from University of Pittsburgh.
Member Services Associate
Rebekkah serves on the team responsible for member services. Her work focuses on membership management and administrative support for the team. Prior to joining the staff in May 2011, she worked for American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Rebekkah has a bachelor's degree in music and religious studies from University of South Carolina.
Margaret A. Breida
Director of Academic Affairs
Margie leads the team responsible for managing advocacy, academic affairs—which includes accreditation, workforce, certification, match, and other education issues—and data research efforts. Before she joined the staff in June 2011, she worked for AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs. Margie has a master’s degree in health physics from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in geography from University of Maryland.
Sheila T. Costa
Director of Strategic Planning and Development
Sheila manages communication/publication products for the associations and supports the overall operations of the alliance. Before joining the staff in June 1997, she worked for PortFolio Magazine and Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine. Sheila has a master’s degree in English from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in English from The College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Sandra E. Dayton
Director of Finance & Administration
Sandy manages finance and administration for AAIM, serving a vital role in fiscal strategy and forecasting. She previously worked for Justice Research and Statistics Association before joining AAIM in 2013. Sandy holds a CPA certificate and license from the state of Virginia and is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton where she majored in business with an accounting concentration.
Susan M. DiSilvestre
Human Resources Manager
Sue manages human resources affairs for AAIM, including recruitment, benefits administration, compensation, and performance management. Before joining the staff in November 2013, she worked for CALMRA. Sue has a bachelor's degree in technology and management from University of Maryland.
As part of the Operations Team, Audrey manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, and provides additional support to the chief financial officer and controller. Before joining the staff in April 2012, she worked for the Council for Opportunity in Education. Audrey has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Strayer University.
Joseph W. Grimes
Director of Member Services
Joe leads the member services team, which addresses membership benefits, recruitment, and retention. Before joining the staff in October 2013, he worked for the American Chiropractic Association. Joe has a bachelor's degree in business management from University of Maryland.
Steven M. Humphrey
Assistant Director of Member Services
Steve helps the Member Services Team meet its responsibilities in governance and information technology. Before joining the staff in October 2002, he worked for Washington Lists and Lands’ End Inlet. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from State University of New York College at Brockport, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Sainabou A. Jobe
Academic Affairs Associate
As a member of the Academic Affairs Team, she focuses on monitoring and researching internal medicine education issues as well as supporting survey efforts and web-based communications. Before joining the staff in September 2013, she worked for Friends Committee on National Legislation. Sainabou has a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Howard University.
Regina M. Laurienzo
Regina supports the team responsible for managing association meetings. Her efforts focus on executing meeting logistics for medium and large meetings and managing planning committee efforts. Before joining the staff in November 2011, she worked for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Regina has a bachelor’s degree in communication from University of Maryland.
Kelly supports the ASP T. Franklin Williams Scholars Program and the Integrating Geriatrics program, which are funded by Atlantic Philanthropies and the John A. Hartford Foundation. Before joining the staff in April 2012, she worked for the Council for Opportunity in Education. Kelly has a bachelor’s degree in communications from DePauw University.
Academic Affairs Coordinator
Consuelo supports the team responsible for academic affairs and advocacy. She focuses her efforts on survey management, committee management, and supporting education redesign. Before joining the staff in May 2013, she worked for the Institute on Disability and Public Policy. Consuelo has a bachelor’s degree in politics and English from Mount Holyoke College.
Member Services Associate
Regina serves on the team responsible for member services. Her work focuses on membership database management and administrative support for the team. Prior to joining the staff in November 2013, she worked for World Vision and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
Program Planning Coordinator
Stephanie joined AAIM in 2013 and supports Educational Programs, coordinating program planning for conferences; managing processes related to submission and selection of workshop and abstract proposals, and the credit and certification process. She previously worked for Point of Light. Stephanie has a bachelor's degree in business administration/fashion merchandising from Laboratory Institute of Merchandising.
As part of the Educational Programs Team, Kirsten manages the online registration system, meeting websites, and speaker communications as well as provides administrative support for program planning and other meeting-related efforts. Before joining the staff in May 2012, she worked for NAFSA: Association of International Educators. Kirsten has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Creighton University.
