International internal medicine residency programs may be included by action of the council. According to the APDIM bylaws, "approved medical education programs are those approved by the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine and accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, or approved by the Internal Medicine Residency Accreditation Program and accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada." Whenever possible, international programs must be approved by a comparable accrediting body.
Residency program membership in APDIM is open to all internal medicine residency programs. The program membership includes the residency program director and any additional faculty and staff involved in the internal medicine residency program; international program dues are $1,500 per year
International program enrollment is available throughout the fiscal year. The APDIM Council will review applications during its monthly meetings and will notify the applicant of the council's decisions as soon as it is made.
