Dear Colleague:
On behalf of the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM), I am pleased to announce the availability of the Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) for Students Version 3.0.
CDIM and the American College of Physicians (ACP) have collaborated to create the third iteration of the award-winning and highly popular educational resource. MKSAP for Students 3 consists of a printed and electronic collection of over 400 patient-centered, self-assessment questions and their answers. The questions begin with a clinical vignette, and the vignettes are organized into 33 different categories that correspond to the CDIM-Society of General Internal Medicine Core Medicine Clerkship Curriculum Guide training problems. Based upon student feedback, the third edition contains more color photographs and more electrocardiogram tracings than the prior editions.
Each question has an answer critique that supplies the correct answer, an explanation why the answer is correct and the incorrect options are wrong, and a short bibliography. The questions in MKSAP for Students 3 are not intended for use as a formal evaluation of students; however, the questions reflect the many real management dilemmas faced daily by internists and, when coupled with the answer critiques, provide a focused, concise review of important content. In short, MKSAP for Students 3 is an educational text, tied explicitly to the curriculum for medical students learning internal medicine.
The approximate retail price for MKSAP for Students 3 is $44.50, making the publication very competitive against other, lower quality books of this type. Enclosed with this letter is a bookstore order form that will allow your bookstore representative to make this publication available to students. Bookstores and distributors can purchase the book for a 35 percent discount at $28.93 each. Students may also order the book individually through ACP at www.acponline.org/catalog. ACP medical student members can purchase the books for $30.00.
I trust you and your students will find MKSAP for Students 3 extremely valuable. In closing, I wish to thank the CDIM members who contributed to MKSAP for Students 3 for their efforts in developing this resource. If you have any questions, please contact CDIM Policy Assistant Nicole V. Baptista at (202) 861-8600 or nbaptista@im.org or ACP’s Patrick C. Alguire, MD, at (215) 351-2845 or palguire@acponline.org.
Sincerely,
Paul A. Hemmer, MD
