October 2025 - AAIM joins the coalition in urging the Labor, Health, and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies to reject cuts of $1.77 billion to programs of the CDC in FY 2026. The CDC Coalition urges House and Senate leaders reject cuts it believes undermines critical public health programs. Instead, the Coalition requests a final, bipartisan FY 2026 bill providing robust funding for the CDC and its vital contributions to the country's health care infrastructure. AAIM joins more than 450 members of the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research urging leaders of the House and Senate (HHS) appropriations committees to finalize the FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) spending bill of $47.2 billion for the NIH. In response to a recent Executive Order imposing a $100,000 fee on employers for each H1-B application , the Alliance and the American College of Physicians (ACP) ask members to contact their representatives to urge the Secretary of Homeland Security to enact the national interest exemption on H-1B visa fees for physicians. The Alliance Joins the AAMC and More Than 160 Healthcare Organizations Urging Policymakers to Embrace and Codify the Financial Accountability in Research (FAIR) Model for Federal Research Funding September 2025 - As of September 22, 2025, 164 organizations have signed on to a letter requesting lawmakers to develop a new, more transparent model for ensuring that institutions’ essential research costs are adequately supported. The public comment period for proposed DHS rule Docket ICEB-2025-0001 is now open and the Alliance encourages all members to participate. If implemented, J-1 physicians would be required to complete Extensions of Status (EOS), a process which can take 6 months to more than a year. AAIM leaders posted a public comment explaining the unnecessary nature of the change and urging DHS to protect physicians' duration of status. The comment period closes September 29, 2025.
