Adaptive and Career-Focused Learning Plans with an Innovative 4+2+2 Block Schedule

    Webinar (Open)

    Mar 24, 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM (ET)

Internal medicine residents—with varied backgrounds, medical school experiences, and academic foundations—begin their post-graduate training at very different levels of development, requiring varied levels of support across ACGME milestone categories. Additionally, as subspecialty fellowship options expand and the diversity of employment opportunities increases over time, trainees begin their residencies craving more guidance and mentorship than ever before. A one-size-fits-all training model no longer seems to be sufficient in the current landscape.

The presenters have developed an innovative approach to resident scheduling, one that caters to each trainee's developmental needs and career goals so that they are better supported in their clinical growth and better prepared for the next step after residency.

The 4+2+2 block system builds upon the x+y models that are common in internal medicine programs, adding cycles of personalization to each resident's schedule. In this webinar, presenters will share their approach to take individualized learning plans to the next level, adapting to each trainee's needs as they change over the course of residency and starting career planning even before day one of internship.

You've Got Mail: Using the Inbox as a Teaching Tool in the Ambulatory Setting

    Webinar (Open)

    Mar 31, 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM (ET)

This webinar introduces the value of teaching intervisit care and presents one institution’s model for integrating intervisit care into the ambulatory internal medicine curriculum.

Presenters will review methods to leverage intervisit care including use of novel performance metrics to identify struggling learners who may otherwise go undetected; use of longitudinal observation of intervisit care as a data point for entrustment; and use of intervisit care to guide learner reflections on medical decision-making. Presenters will review the institution’s formal and informal integration of intervisit care into ambulatory teaching, including traditional didactics, longitudinal coaching, and summative feedback.
