2018 APM Winter Meeting

About the Meeting

2018 APM Winter Meeting, the association’s premier membership gathering, was held on March 18-20. The 2018 APM Winter Meeting provided opportunities for leaders of academic departments of internal medicine to share ideas and opinions about the most relevant issues. The meeting also featured priceless opportunities to network, share information, and collaborate with other leaders in academic internal medicine.

APM Is Part of Academic Internal Medicine Week

This year, for the second time, the APM Winter Meeting was co-located with Academic Internal Medicine Week 2018, which was held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Academic Internal Medicine Week 2018 included:

  • AIM Educational Conference
  • APDIM Spring Meeting
  • APDIM Program Administrators Meeting
  • ASP Annual Meeting
  • CDIM Clerkship Administrators Meeting
  • CDIM National Meeting

APM Winter Meeting participants had the opportunity to attend Academic Internal Medicine Week 2018 sessions—including the opening plenary on medical education by Alison J. Whelan, MD, Chief Medical Education Officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges and the signature plenary on enhancing diversity and inclusiveness from David S. Wilkes, MD, Dean at University of Virginia School of Medicine and recipient of the 2007 APM Diversity Award—as well as other educational offerings.

APM New Chairs and Emerging Leaders Program

APM offered a full-day program for new chairs and emerging leaders of departments of internal medicine on Sunday, March 18, 2018, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The program was designed for chairs who have served fewer than two years in the role, but faculty at all levels were welcomed to participate. The 2018 program offered sessions on leading a department of internal medicine; developing successful partnerships with key leaders—including the dean, other department chairs, the chief administrative officer, and the faculty leadership team;-and the challenges of being a chair.
