The goal of this project will be to test different reflective exercises and practices and develop a "reflection curriculum" that can be well integrated into the educational structure of residency and clerkship programs at an HBCU that has been recognized for it's prominent "social mission. "In this environment where the care of underserved and vulnerable populations is paramount it is easy for doctors, especially trainees to focus on their patients and the complex array of social issues that come with the patient without adequately reflecting on the "emotional toll" that the work may take on them. We would like to design models for reflective practice that acknowledge the complexity of our patients' medical and social issues, as well as working as an URM or minority health care provider.

Participating Institution: Morehouse School of Medicine
Submitting Author: Cinnamon Bradley, MD

Outcomes: The evaluation methodology included a brief survey upon completion regarding participation in the program--this was done through a survey tool and we are still waiting for additional evaluations to be completed. The assessment of the pre and post MBI burnout surveys and RS-14 surveys will be evaluated at and we will see if our intervention was effective in decreasing burnout or sustaining resilience (comparing surveys in both groups)
