2018 APDIM Fall Meeting

Precourses

Precourses offer targeted, small group learning on key topics in program management. These boot camp-style, day-long sessions are usually limited to fewer than 60 people and led by real world experts: knowledgeable consultants and faculty who learned the lessons in real-time application.

The small group format gives you opportunities to network and learn from successes and failures of the precourse faculty as well as peers in the room.

Rethinking Lean Fundamentals for Health Care Delivery

Rethinking Lean Fundamentals for Health Care Delivery:
Lean Immersion

Thursday, October 25, 2018
8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Course Description

Making lasting improvements in health care is difficult because of the complex processes, subtle people-to-people interactions, and behavior change challenges that must be addressed simultaneously. Most improvement methodologies fail to encompass all these dimensions and struggle to achieve sustainable impacts. Lean Immersion is the first to integrate them into a single, community-based learning network. Lean Immersion is designed for making the small, daily, coordinated changes in process, skills, and behaviors needed to sustain evidence-based practices and improve access, quality, and cost. Drawing on more than a decade of success with process improvement at Purdue University as well as behavior change teaching and applications at Northwestern University, this precourse introduces Lean Immersion and how to put it to work in your organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Upon completion of this precourse, participants will be able to:
  • Explain how lean tools need to be modified to accommodate health care delivery
  • Identify specific applications in your residency program and practice
  • Plan next steps for continued development in Lean Immersion
