2022 APM Robert H. Williams, MD, Distinguished Chair of Medicine Award
The Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) recognizes Alan M. Fogelman, MD, as the 2022 APM Robert H. Williams, MD, Distinguished Chair of Medicine Award recipient.
On faculty since 1973, Dr. Fogelman is currently Castera Professor at David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to his current position, he was Chief of Cardiology from 1979 to 1994 and Chair of Medicine from 1992 to 2021 at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Fogelman earned his MD from and completed his internal medicine residency training and fellowship training at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.
A member of APM since 1995, Dr. Fogelman served on numerous APM committees. He is a recipient of the Sherman K. Mellinkoff Award, UCLA Award for Professional Achievement, and the American Heart Association’s Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology Achievement Award. His nominator notes, “Dr. Fogelman has been an innovator and visionary leader, especially displayed in his unique and highly successful STAR program to train physician scientists, development of a thriving integrated academic health system, as well as an early and highly effective commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.”

I know that my inclusion in this august group is due to the success of the trainees, staff and faculty in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and my good fortune to have been able to work with them over so many years.”
