Impact of Highly Interactive Emotional Intelligence Training on EQ-i Scores of Internal Medicine Residents

06-05-2020 02:32 PM

To assess impact of an intensive EI training on mean Emotional Quotient Inventory scores (EQ-i) of Internal Medicine (IM) resident physicians by measurement of pre and post intervention EQ-i scores; to compare impact of highly interactive training sessions to self-directed EI development on EQ-i scores; to assess satisfaction with EI training interventions.

Participating Institution: University of Kansas

Submitting Author: Leigh Eck, MD

Outcomes:

  1. Original: As our primary outcome, we planned to compare EQ-i scores immediately pre and post intervention; we quickly realized that this time frame for repeat testing was too short. Difference: We will re-measure EQ-i scores one year after our initial testing. Funds for this testing will come from Max S. Allen Endowment as we have utilized all funding from AAIM already.
  2. Secondary outcome data was collected as described in our original proposal with outcomes as per below.

Dissemination Deliverables:

  1. Abstract submission to the 2019 APDIM Fall Meeting. Abstract submitted / awaiting feedback on submission acceptance.
  2. Multi-institutional workshop development for the 2020 Academic Internal Medicine Week. This deliverable is pending repeat EQ-i testing.
  3. Concurrent work towards development of a journal article to JGME. This deliverable is pending repeat EQ-i testing
