Purposing Resident Retreats for Productivity and Fun

When:  Feb 1, 2023 from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM (ET)

It has become increasingly difficult to “fit” multiple curricular objectives into busy internal medicine residency programs. Programs are tasked with prioritizing medical education, scholarly activity, quality improvement, professional development, leadership training, DEI, resident wellness, and the list goes on. Yet, there is never enough time! Resident retreats offer the unique opportunity to strategically address many program needs in one sitting while also providing a venue for team-building, socialization, and fun.

In this webinar, presenters will share popular class-specific internal medicine resident retreats held at University of Nebraska Medical Center over the past five years. The PGY-1 retreat focuses on helping residents transition to their new role with an emphasis on setting expectations, professionalism, personal wellness, and camaraderie building. The PGY-2 retreat covers leadership training and “teaching to teach” to prepare residents for supervisory roles. The PGY-3 retreat focuses on successful transition to independent practice with content including fellowship and job preparation, financial planning, and board exam preparation.

Presenters will also discuss how retreats have been easily modified each year to address new program and house officer needs. By sharing prior successes and failures, participants will walk away with an easy-to-apply template and ideas for retreat creation and implementation in your residency program.
