The Student Becomes the Teacher:  Mastering the Art of Morning Report

When:  Nov 20, 2024 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

AAIM Chief Residents Webinar Series

Teaching is one of the core responsibilities of chief medical residents (CMR) and faculty. Regrettably, many residency programs lack curricula to train residents in becoming effective educators. For example, there is minimal education on acquiring skills to teach effectively in small groups or in classroom-like settings. As a result, most CMRs and faculty members often rely on experiential and on-the-job" learning, which may lead to ineffective teaching styles or inadequate teaching methodologies.

This webinar is designed provide high yield teaching skills that CMRs can use in their educational sessions at either university or community-based programs. The webinar will provide participants with the skills and confidence to successfully deliver morning reports (and other similarly structured educational sessions). This workshop will be case-based and will describe three vital components of successful morning reports: style, audience management, and feedback. This webinar will help participants to identify the most effective style to use during their morning reports, provide them with practical skills to enhance audience participation, and encourage participants to give feedback to their co-chiefs using the vital components of morning reports.
