Teaching Clinical Reasoning in the Clerkship

When:  Jan 30, 2023 from 03:00 PM to 04:00 PM (ET)

The internal medicine clerkship is most often the place where medical students are first exposed to the deliberate practice of clinical reasoning and metacognition in patient care. However, few institutions have formal curricula to teach reasoning despite a majority of clerkship leaders rating these skills as moderately to extremely important for students to learn in the clerkships. In this workshop, the presenters will share their experience designing curricular threads for teaching and assessing clinical reasoning skills and provide practical strategies and tools for integrating this content into the usual portfolio of clerkship experiences. The workshop will incorporate scenario-based discussion and opportunities for live Q&A.
