AAIM UME-GME Transition Individualized Learning Plan

AAIM is pleased to provide a template Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) to bridge the UME to GME transition for newly matched interns.

Developed by the AAIM Learner Handoff Standards Task Force, the ILP can be sent to fourth year medical students just after they have matched into your program; the form asks them to reflect on areas of learning needs together with input from a UME advisor before returning it to your program. In a 2022 pilot, programs used information from these ILPs to help plan curricula, signal interest in the needs of new interns, and start conversations about growth-directed learning.

Programs are encouraged to use or adapt this ILP; please include an attribution to the Alliance as the source:  “This form is based on a modifiable template provided by the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine at www.im.org/resources-programs/transition-ilp
