2017 CDIM Ruth-Marie E. Fincher, MD, Service Award Recipient

Susan T. Hingle, MD

CDIM awarded Susan T. Hingle, MD, the 2017 CDIM Ruth-Marie E. Fincher, MD, Service Award during Academic Internal Medicine Week 2017, held March 19-22 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD. CDIM President L. James Nixon, MD, presented the award to Dr. Hingle during the CDIM Awards Lunch.

The CDIM Ruth-Marie E. Fincher, MD, Service Award recognizes a CDIM member who has contributed greatly to the association. Dr. Hingle is credited by her nominators as having “dedicated extensive time and effort to the organization through direct committee work” and is credited with exhibiting “extraordinary leadership, encouragement, and support of other members on these committees.” Dr. Hingle’s nominators indicate that her “contributions and service to CDIM have been numerous,” and cite her has going “above and beyond to provide time, thought and effort” in her committee involvement.

Dr. Hingle has served on the CDIM Program Planning Committee as a member, vice-chair, and eventually as chair. Her nominators cite her as being “extremely committed to her position” as a “thoughtful and impressive leader,” helping to “ensure productive discussions.” Dr. Hingle has also served as a member of the CDIM High Value Care Committee, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) Educational Program Planning Committee, the AAIM Finance Committee, and the CDIM-APDIM Task Force on Residents as Teachers. Dr. Hingle has been a member of CDIM since 2004 and is currently an officer of the CDIM Council, serving as Treasurer of the association. She is also a three time recipient of the American College of Physicians (ACP) John Tooker Evergreen Award for Chapter Management and Innovation.

Dr. Hingle is currently the Director of Internal Medicine Clerkship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where she also serves as the Associate Program Director for the internal medicine residency program. Prior to her tenure at Southern Illinois University, Dr. Hingle served on the internal medicine faculty at Northwestern University School of Medicine. Dr. Hingle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University. She went on to earn her Medical Degree from Rush Medical College and her internal medicine residency at Georgetown University Medical Center.
