2017 AIM Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Monica Fawthrop

AIM awarded Monica Fawthrop the 2017 AIM Distinguished Service Award during Academic Internal Medicine Week 2017, held March 19-22 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD. AIM President Masada “Musty” Habhab presented the award to Ms. Fawthrop during the AIM Annual Awards and Plenary Session.

The AIM Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual who has contributed their time and talent to the organization in a manner that best reflects business administrators.

A member of AIM since 2007, Ms. Fawthrop has played an active role in the association. She has served as Treasurer of the AIM Council as well as a member of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) Publications Oversight Committee. She has also served as a presenter and panelist for Academic Internal Medicine Week on three separate occasions. In addition, Ms. Fawthrop has played an instrumental role in the editing and recreation of the AIM Administrators Guide. Ms. Fawthrop is the recipient of the 2007 University of Washington School of Medicine Service Excellence Award, and her nominators credit her with having “generously given her time to the organization but also has taken the time to mentor and help other administrators navigate the intricacies of such administrative positions.”  She was cited as being “engaged, thoughtful, and going above and beyond in her duties.”

Ms. Fawthrop is currently Division Administrator for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and Interim Division Administrator for Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Washington, where she has served in various administrative roles since 1988. Ms. Fawthrop earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Washington.
