AAIM Member Spotlight
How long have you been a member of AAIM?
I’ve been a member of the Alliance for more than six years. I joined as an assistant program director and became increasingly interested as I became involved with the committees and meetings.
Describe your typical day.
One reason I like my job is that I don’t have a typical day. I’m Med-Peds so spend half my time in pediatrics and half my time seeing adult patients. I generally work with residents and/or students in most clinical settings. I’m able to spend time in hospital and meet chief residents in office.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of job is mentoring and meeting with residents.
How has the AAIM membership been of value to you and your career?
What I value is having an opportunity to network with colleagues across the country. It’s valuable to understand what other programs are doing and their expertise on education. My experience with the Alliance has helped develop that expertise.
What's your favorite moment of your career so far?
When working on the medical floor and I witness the growth of the residents, particularly when senior residents independently care for patients—it’s very rewarding.
What was your childhood dream job?
I remember wanting to be a weather man! I practiced with puppets and pretended to give the weather on TV.
How do you spend your free time?
My wife and children would say I have too many hobbies to count. I love outside trail running. I have two boys and really try to find ways to do family trips.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
People would be surprised to know that taking care of patients is hard, and takes work and dedication.
The Alliance turns the spotlight on members to highlight how they are making a difference and how they have benefited from AAIM membership.
It offers an opportunity for you to share your story with your colleagues, inspire future academic internal medicine professionals, and strengthen awareness of the profession and association. Member Spotlight appears regularly on www.im.org and in AAIM Connection. To nominate another member or yourself, submit a name online or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
