AAIM

Guidelines for Submitting an AAIM Abstract

1. AAIM abstracts primarily address educational and programmatic issues. Abstracts that present clinical studies or clinical research out of the context of student, resident, or fellowship education or programmatic innovation may not be reviewed.

2. Keep abstract titles brief and to the point. Use title case for abstract titles (i.e. A Novel Curriculum for Systems-Based Practice); do not use all capital letters.

3. Do not capitalize articles, prepositions, or conjunctions, unless they begin the title.

4. List the first and last name of ALL authors. If including first or middle initials, do not insert periods after initials (i.e. Steven M Humphrey). Do not include medical or doctoral degree suffixes in the author(s) listing.

5. List institutional affiliations for ALL authors. If multiple authors are from the same institution, you may list them together (e.g. Scott M Gehring, Jessica L O'Hara, Georgetown University).

6. Abstract descriptions should be no longer than 500 words. While abstracts will not be stringently judged on length, abstracts far in excess of 500 words may not be reviewed.

7. Single space all text in the body of the abstract.

8. While not required, subheadings may aid the organization and readability of abstract descriptions. If using subheadings, make them succinct (preferably no more than two words). Divide the text from the subheading with a colon; do not skip lines after the subheading (i.e. Methods: AAIM staff surveyed all members using an online instrument…).

9. Check and recheck all spelling, punctuation, and data for accuracy. Although accepted authors will have the opportunity to edit their abstracts, if they do not have any changes, AAIM will print the abstracts as they are received.

10. Beware of formatting in the body of the abstract. Formatted text (bold and italics) or special characters may not transmit properly.

11. Do not include graphic aids such as charts, tables, or graphs as these may affect the format of the abstract submission.
