2005 APDIM PA Job Description and Salary Survey Data Now Available

In October 2004, the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM) Program Administrators Advisory Council (PAAC) distributed a 110-question online survey to its constituency (n=276) querying information about job responsibilities and salary history. A 95 percent response rate (n=261) provided PAAC with detailed data regarding a range of job expectations including, level of education, supervisory responsibilities, finance, clerkship involvement, and hospital administration.

Password protected results are available to APDIM members at www.im.org/AAIM/Development/Docs/ ProgramAdministrators/salarysurveyresults2005.htm. Salary data is presented both nationally and regionally (Graph). Details of job responsibilities are presented in the aggregate data. PAAC’s goal is to administer follow-up surveys annually in order to maintain accurate data regarding internal medicine residency program administrators.

PAAC would like to publicly acknowledge Cathleen Rook, Academic Program Manager for the internal medicine residency program at the State University of New York Stony Brook Health Sciences Center, who developed the survey questions and administered a paper version for many years as well as Betty Aman, Program Coordinator for the medicine-pediatrics residency program at the University of Rochester I School of Medicine and Dentistry, who analyzed the data collected from the 2005 online survey and generated the graphs and reports.
